The Baltic-American Youth Documentary Workshop “Voices Through the Lens” is a week-long intensive documentary filmmaking workshop that brought together young film enthusiasts (aged 16-21) from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in Tallinn. In just one week, the participants found a story in Tallinn that they wanted to tell. The work was done in mixed groups, which made the challenge both creative and social. The workshop was organized by Kinomaja Film School, which also organizes the international Koolifilm Film Festival. The Baltic youth documentary workshop is planned to be repeated in the coming years.
The lead facilitators were Johnny Ramos and Jesse Pérez Antigua from the New York documentary production house DCTV, and each group was also supported by a young professional filmmaker from Estonia, Finland, China or Norway.
The project was supported by the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation and the Tallinn Education Department.
The films will be introduced by the young authors themselves, and the screening will be followed by a discussion led by Johnny and Jesse.
Session length, including the discussion, is 2 hours.
